40.  FOUR SHAFT FLOOR £80 FOR QUICK SALE.... I made this large four-poster hand loom around 1980 primarily for rug weaving.  It is particularly suitable for handling linen warps in weft-faced structures such as three-end block draft as described in Peter Collingwood's book "The Techniques of Rug-Weaving".  Three-end block draft produces a double-faced structure so you can have one colour on the back and a different colour on the face.  A shaft-switcher is presently incorporated into the tie-up and allows you to bring the underside colour to the face of the rug during weaving to produce spots, lines, or shapes.  Of course, other weave structures would easily be possible.  The loom is a full countermarch design with four shaft presently implemented, but having space for at least eight if required.  There are presently four pedals, but, again, there is space for more if you wish.  The pedals have (removable) blocks so a young person can use the loom without the need for re-tying.  The seat is contained within the loom framework.  Most of the construction is in pine with polyurethane finish.  The 4" diameter beams are of thick steel tube and do not flex under the high tension that line warps require: all can rotate.  Blue tarpaulin aprons are provided at each end to attach the warp.  Tension is applied by means of ratchet and pall in the usual way, and additionally, a pair of large screws allows the back beam to be adjusted away from the main loom frame: thus you can control warp tension very accurately if you wish.  There are two reeds of 3.5 epi and 4 epi, and both are 62" long.  The loom comes complete with sticks, temple, raddle, electric lighting and shuttles. The photograph shows the loom "in storage" with special short timbers in place to reduce width.  When assembled with the proper beams it is much wider, and you can weave as wide as you care to reach - up to about 60"  Overall dimensions: 96" high above the beater, 103" long and 75" wide across the beater.  When the beater supports are taken off, the loom sides are 80" tall and will pass through a normal doorway.  Inspection welcome.  Buyer collects.
