Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th November 2012 Milland Contemporary Craft Show at Milland, Petersfield, Hants.

The following one and two day courses are available in West Sussex.  Bed and breakfast accommodation can be arranged locally.  

TAPESTRY WEAVINGparticipants will produce a sampler of traditional as well as 3D techniques on a simple frame loom (which they can keep).  SPINNING:  This one day course includes sorting the fleece, carding (combing), spinning on the wheel and plying to produce a yarn suitable for knitting or weaving. FELT MAKING:   Felt is the oldest form of textile made by humans and can be used for both practical and decorative items. NEEDLE FELT CHRISTMAS DECORATIONSMake your own delightful felted Christmas trees, Santas, Snowmen, Stars etc. using needle felting techniques.   Dates by arrangement.  Cost of Day Course £50   For more details contact Hilary Charlesworth 01730 817191 

KUMIHIMO - The art of Japanese braid making:  An introductory day workshop.  "Kumi" means "coming together" and "himo" describes a length of cord......together they refer to the way of making braids.  Traditionally, a wooden loom called a Marudai is used, and decorative and functional cords are produced using fine silks.  In this introductory workshop, we will use a card loom with wool and cotton yarns to learn the basics of this braiding technique. The decorative braids can then be used to make into jewellery, embellish garments etc.   Dates by arrangement.  Cost of Day Course £50.  For more details contact Hilary Charlesworth 01730 817191 

WARPING MADE EASY:  This one day course takes the mystery out of putting a warp on a loom.  Step by step instructions using your own loom or a sample loom provided.  Feedback from Wealden Guild:  "a few lines on behalf of myself and the Guild to thank you for Saturday's workshop.  Everyone, without exception said what a brilliant workshop it was under your tuition, from those experienced weavers to complete novices like myself." The day includes creating a reference notebook using photos and key notes.  Individual tuition or small groups. BASKET MAKING: Create your own unique basket and learn the traditional technique of "stake and strand", "chequerboard", and twining with centre cane or freshwater rush. Or explore colour and plain weave plaiting with a contemporary flat paper band. Individual tuition or small groups. NAVAJO WEAVING: Learn to weave in the Navajo style using the traditional techniques of tapestry weave, lazy lines and the characteristic four twined selvedges.  The two day course includes how to wind a warp, tie into a frame loom, make the heddles, twine the selvedges, design on the loom and weave a sampler.
